Local and State Updates • Teacher evaluation systems showcase (May 11, 2012) – 6 vendors • Moodle • Moodle 1.9 server will be gone after June 2012 - make sure you are on the new Moodle 2.1 (running on moodle21.resa.net/xx website).   12. NETS for Students Creativity and Innovation Students demonstrate creative thinking, construct knowledge, and develop innovative products and processes using technology. Students: a. apply existing knowledge to generate new ideas, products, or     processes b. create original works as a means of personal or group expression c. use models and simulations to explore complex systems and issues d. identify trends and forecast possibilities

NETS for Teachers Facilitate and Inspire Student Learning and Creativity Teachers use their knowledge of subject matter, teaching and learning, and technology to facilitate experiences that advance student learning, creativity, and innovation in both face-to-face and virtual environments. Design and Develop Digital Age Learning Experiences and Assessments Design or adapt relevant learning experiences that incorporate digital tools and resources to promote student learning and creativity.

Partnership for 21st Century Learning • Think Creatively • Use a wide range of idea creation techniques (such as brainstorming) • Create new and worthwhile ideas (both incremental and radical concepts) • Elaborate, refine, analyze and evaluate their own ideas in order to improve and maximize creative efforts • Work Creatively with Others • Develop, implement and communicate new ideas to others effectively • Be open and responsive to new and diverse perspectives; incorporate group input and feedback into the work • Demonstrate originality and inventiveness in work and understand the real world limits to adopting new ideas • View failure as an opportunity to learn; understand that creativity and innovation is a long-term, cyclical process of small successes and frequent mistakes • Implement Innovations • Act on creative ideas to make a tangible and useful contribution to the field in which the innovation will occur

Examples of Creativity in Teaching and Learning • Angry Birds Project – Joe Hilliard • LiveBinders for student portfolios (example of senior portfolio) • Animoto (7th grade science example) • Google Sites (Interactive Periodic Table of Elements) • Students researched a particular element and created a web site about their element using Google Sites. Students included text, images, video/audio and links to other web sites. Each individual site was then linked to a central Red Team Periodic Table web site to create an interactive periodic table of elements. • KidBlog - http://kidblog.org/ififthexplorers • Masher (alphabet example) • Fakebook - http://www.classtools.net/fb/home/page • Video Blocks (lab safety video) • QR Codes in the classroom (http://qr-codes.wikispaces.com/)
