Children's Reactions to Expectations | Joseph Blake Smith

Joseph Blake Smith. To take it a step further, how much time and energy have we all spent wishing (expecting) things to be different than they are? This is difficult enough to sort out within our adult psyches, but what happens when our wishes and expectations for our children don't match who and what they are? This is another thorny issue that can cause a great deal of pain and anxiety for everyone, especially our children.<br>https://e27.co/user/josephblake.smith

  3. "In the context of schools, executive functioning encompasses all self-management skills that students require to succeed in the classroom." More specifically, it entails the ability to set goals, plan the steps necessary to achieve those goals, and then carry out the plans. Attention, focus, planning, organisation, working memory, recall, self-regulation of emotions, and self-monitoring are all examples of executive functions." Executive Functioning

  4. How Executive Functioning Relates to Attention and Focus Concentrated attention is defined as a focus on a single stimulus (typically developed as an infant). Persistence and sustained attention-vigilance (think about toddlers watching commercials). Distractibility is eliminated with selective attention (able to stay focused when other things are going on). Changing your focus- mental flexibility (being able to switch between tasks with significant ease). Multitasking requires divided attention (being able to switch between tasks rapidly so as to appear you are paying attention to multiple tasks at the same time).
