  1. Important Tips to Prevent Cavities During the Holidays

  2. Prevent Cavities During the Holidays • The holiday season is just around the corner and for some, it already has begun. • It's impossible to stop the kids from reaching for sweets, as it is with adults. And that's fine, for as long as it is not too much. • There are still many ways to prevent cavities during the holiday season.

  3. Here are some Important Tips to Help You Keep Your Teeth in Good Condition During the Holidays:

  4. Minimize Intake Of Sweets • You don't have to avoid sweets altogether, but it helps to reduce your intake of them. Avoid grazing throughout the day by keeping desserts away after every meal. • Instead of constantly reaching for them, grab a bite during mealtimes. Children can also have their share of treats along with their meal, while there’s an abundant amount of saliva in the mouth. • As a strategy, you can use a small plate to also lessen serving size.

  5. Drink Water More Often • Skip the sweetened drinks and sodas, and opt for water instead. Water doesn't contain harmful residue that harms or discolors the teeth. It also helps stimulate salivary flow. • Saliva plays a crucial role during the naturally-occurring remineralization process. It helps strengthen the teeth so they can withstand acid attacks. • When harmful acids are already too much for the enamel to handle, decay can occur.

  6. Choose Healthy Snacks • Another way to avoid cavities during the holiday is to maintain a balanced diet. Include fruits and vegetables in your meals to help boost your oral health and the rest of the body. • Cheese, apples, and carrots can serve as alternative snacks. Besides being delicious, they also aren't messy to eat. • This also makes them an ideal addition to packed snacks or lunches.

  7. Brush Your Teeth Properly And Regularly • Brushing once a day isn't enough but brushing multiple times haphazardly also won't offer as much help either. • The key is to brush gently and properly at least twice a day, once before bedtime. After meals, wait for at least 30 minutes before brushing. Rinse your mouth with water instead. • And when brushing, spend at least two minutes, making sure to cover all areas. If you're having difficulties using a manual toothbrush, use an electric brush instead.
