  2. Tips to Help Your Kids Prevent Cavities • While quarantine rules have been easing up, chances are you still prefer to stay at home with your little ones, as much as possible. • If you and your family are already overdue for your routine dental check-ups and cleaning appointments, you can start arranging schedules with your dental office. Apart from that, it helps to double the work to help your children avoid dental issues.  • Cavities are a common dental problem among kids and adults, but it can be prevented.

  3. Here are Some Tips to Protect Your Kids Against Cavities

  4. Get Your Child Used to Everyday Brushing and Flossing • If you have an infant or toddler at home, they’ll still need your guidance to keep their mouth clean. Babies won’t be able to resist when you clean their gums and mouth, but the story can be different with toddlers. • Toddlers may refuse or may not like brushing at all, but you need to be persistent and patient. • Remember to only associate brushing and going to the dental office with positive things to avoid passing on dental-related fears to your children.

  5. Set A Good Example • It’ll be easier to encourage kids to keep their teeth clean if they see that you’re also having fun doing it. • Show them that you’re brushing and flossing your teeth. You can dance to their favorite tunes while cleaning your mouth to motivate them to do the same as well. • Also, avoid passing on bacteria to your children by having them use their utensils.

  6. Limit Exposure To Sweets • Sweets and starchy food can both contribute to tartar and plaque build-up. These food items can break down into harmful acids, which attack the tooth enamel. • If possible, give your little ones sweet after a meal to avoid grazing throughout the day. Have them drink water more often to reduce exposure of their teeth to sugars and acids. • Skip fruit juices and give them the actual fruit, instead. If you must let them indulge, give them plain water afterward.

  7. Prepare Healthy Food • Try to not give in to what your children are always requesting, unless they’re healthy and nutritious. • Mix up something they like with greens and colorful vegetables and fruits. It’s okay if they don’t touch all their food. Keep exposing them to a varied meal until they try to taste it. • Eating nutritious meals will also help strengthen their teeth and improve their overall health.
