  13. Case study • Susie MoJoe is a 24 year old single mother of a 2 and ½ year old boy, who is admitted to the medical surgical floor with the diagnosis of an unintentional opiate overdose. She has a sitter at bedside assigned by the hospital. She is a one pack per day smoker and has a long history of opiate abuse. Her drug screen revealed positive for THC, opiates, and ETOH was less then 5. On admission day 2, she appears very anxious and restless. Further assessment reveals that Susie is concerned about her child, where she is going to live, the absence of her partner, and what is now going to happen to her, now that this has occurred.

  14. Case study questions • According to the Rogerian Theory, what concepts can we utilize to assist Susie MoJoe in altering her environment to assist her in starting to heal herself? • How would you , as her nurse, apply the Rogerian Theory in order to provide a non-hurried, one on one, opportunity to discuss her perceived problems, given that you have already altered her environment?
