What was going on in Poe’s life at the time? • In 1844 Poe went to work for the Evening Mirror where he made 15 dollars a week • After, he went to the Broadway Journal where he became the sole editor • His wife Virginia Clemm was sick and on her death bed while “The Raven” was being published
