  5. What is the Stomach • A stretchy bag that holds your food after you eat (temporary storage) What is the function of your Stomach? • Helps to chemically break food into smaller pieces so your body can use it for energy and nutrition

  7. What is the Small Intestine • Connected to the stomach and large intestine. • Tube that is 20 feet long. • Continues to digest food • Food stays in your small intestine for 4 to 8 hours

  9. What is the Large Intestine • Continues the digestion process – absorbs water and vitamins • Tube that is 5 feet long • Waste stays for 10 to 12 hours

  11. What is the function of the Liver • Factory for antibodies and bile • Largest organ WITHIN the body • Stores vitamins and sugars until your body needs them • Food does NOT pass through this organ

  24. What is Chemical Digestion? • Chemical • Changes the chemical composition of food with the aid of digestive enzymes • Breaks large molecules of food into very tiny molecules that can be absorbed and used by the cells in the form of nutrition.
