Court & Player Uniforms • At the completion of this Module the student should: • Have knowledge of a basketball court and common markings • Know what uniform items is required for a player to participate • Be able to recognize legal and illegal uniform items

Boundary Lines • Rule 4-9 • Boundary lines of the court consists of end lines and sidelines • Inside edges of these lines define inbounds and out of bounds areas

A Court Markings • Free Throw Circle • Free Throw Lines • Lane Lines • Lower Block
Coaching Box • 14 Feet Maximum • Can be smaller • Set anywhere between the 28 foot mark and end line • Coach must stay in this area the entire game, including if seated • Coach loses box if technical foul is given to him/her or bench personnel

Player Location • Location of a player is determined by the player is touching the floor as far as being: • Inbounds • Out of Bounds • Frontcourt • Backcourt • Outside the 3 point line • Inside the 3 point line • Airborne player is located where they last touched

Basket Size and Material • Basket • 18 inches on the inside diameter • Net • White Cord • 12-Mesh • 15 to 18 inches in length • Construction should momentarily check the ball as it passes through

Red Light • Behind or an LED light on the backboard • Permitted to supplement the audible timer’s signal • Shall be synchronized with this signal

Illegal Uniform Penalty(10-5-4) | 31 | • Maximum of one technical foul for: • Illegal uniform(s) • Illegal pant(s) or skirt(s) • Illegal number(s) • Previous penalty was one technical foul assessed to each starter/substitute
Illegal Uniform Penalty(10-5-4) | 32 | • Technical foul now charged directly to head coach • Must be seated for the remainder of the game in states utilizing the optional coaching box
Uniform • Must be worn properly • Undershirts • Must match jersey color • Pants/shorts can be any color • Do not have to match jersey • If player is not wearing uniform properly, they must leave the game
Legal Uniforms | 35 | • Items of specific concern: • Jerseys not tucked in (includes blousing) • Pants not on waist • Jewelry • Illegal head/wristbands (color, logo, size) • Illegal undershirts (visible logo, color, hems) • Undergarments (color, above knee)
Undershirt Logo • No logo on the undershirt of any kind
Blood Rule • Player • Must leave the game when…. • Open wound • Bleeding • Blood on uniform (any amount) • Player can stay in the game if timeout is called by their team • Remove any blood on the floor or equipment

Guards, Casts, Braces and Compression Sleeves • Any of these items that are hard, and unyielding leather, plaster, pliable (soft) plastic, metal or any substance cannot be worn • Applies to the elbow, hand, finger, wrist or forearm; even though covered with soft padding
