Mission Statement The State University of New York College at Geneseo Inter-Residence Council, as the largest on-campus organization, is committed to providing a positive, approachable, and effective forum for all students. The Inter-Residence Council strives to be the aware and involved voice of Geneseo’s residential community and seeks to develop a broader intellectual, social, and cultural on-campus environment. From this foundation, the Inter-Residence Council trains and develops the next generation of student leaders.

  4. History Lesson • Residence Hall Association (RHA) • National Association of College and University Residence Halls (NACURH) • Divided regionally into 8 Regions • Geneseo belongs to: NorthEast Affiliate of College and University Residence Halls (NEACURH)

Residence Hall Associations • Usually divisions of Residence Life • Many varieties of systems • Geneseo unique • Student Association • Standing Committee • Director of Inter-Residence Affairs is IRC Chair • Integrally linked by mission and purpose with Residence Life and Division of Student Life

Nationally – NACURH 8 Regions throughout USA and Canada Large forum for networking and ideas Provides RHA’s with unity and strength Annual conference Regionally – NEACURH Intimate networking with schools close by List serve full of ideas Upward mobility to Regional Board of Director positions Bi-annual conferences NACURH & NEACURH What does IRC take home…

  10. Leadership Development • Two day training at beginning of semester • Continuous training: • During IRC meetings • Campus Round Table

  11. Semesterly Training • Attended by IRC members and RC members • Modeled after NEACURH conferences • Programming sessions • Halls work together to build community • SALT award

Continuous Training • Campus Round Table • Hall Presidents Trained by CRC • Presidents take training back to entire hall • During IRC Meetings • Bi-monthly training moments • Ten minute training moments • Usually done by outside organizations: • Geneseo Organization for Leadership Development • National Residence Hall Honorary • Student Organizations

Come for partial funding for a hall programs Little IRC involvement outside of funding and suggestions Approximately 60-70 programs a year Wide variety: Pots-n-Paints Paintball Mother’s Day Crafts Floor dinners Horse Back Riding Picnics IRC Hall Funded Programs (Many in conjunction with RA floor programming)
