Bullying Journal • After reading the article on bullying you will write a journal response (1 page minimum) • Paragraph 1 – What is your reaction to the article? • Paragraph 2 – What are characteristics that make someone more susceptible to being bullied? (use quotes from the article and examples from your life) • Paragraph 3 – What are characteristics of people who bully? Why do they bully? (use quotes from the article and examples from your life)

  4. Monday HW • Read Chapter 2 • What to look for: • Instances of bullying • Characterization (when you learn something new about a character… how they act or what they look like) • Major events

  5. Tuesday • Take out: • LOTF book • Background notes • Sticky notes • Something to write with REMINDERS: QUIZ BLOCK DAY!!! Ch 1-5 & Background Notes!

  6. Tuesday HW • Read Chapter 5 • Focus On: • Instances of bullying • Characterization (when you learn something new about a character… how they act or what they look like) • Major events • QUIZ BLOCKDAY • Chapter 1-5 • Background notes

Bullying Quotes Requirements • Choose if you want to look for quotes for: Option 1: Piggy as a victim (he is bullied by multiple people) Option 2: Jack as a bully (he bullies many different people) • Turn your paper horizontal (hot dog). Title it Bully Quotes – Piggy as a victim or Jack as a bully (whichever one you chose) • Draw 3 columns on your paper Speaker & Audience Quote Effect

  8. Journal Entry – Bullying Quotes Speaker& Audience Quote w/ correct documentation Effect Speaker=Who says the quote? Audience=Who is it said to? Who hears it? Each quote MUST have an effect. How does this effect the society of boys living on the island? How does it change the dynamic? (Golding page#) Minimum of 6 quotes “’He’s not fatty,’ cried Ralph, ‘his real name’s Piggy’ … for the moment the boys were a closed circuit of sympathy with Piggy outside” (Golding 21). Speaker= Ralph Audience=Piggy and the rest of the boys From the very beginning Piggy is an outcast on the island. He is an easy target for the boys to pick on.
