China operates under a communist government where major resources are owned by the state, aiming for an equitable distribution of wealth. The Communist Party of China, led by the Paramount Leader, Hu Jintao, is responsible for significant policy decisions. The country's governance is hierarchical, with provinces and mayors appointed by the central government. Leaders serve five-year terms, but elections are not held, raising questions about the consent of the governed. Changes in government typically require a coup, indicating limited avenues for peaceful political transformation.

Type of Government • Communism - a political and economic system in which the major productive resources in a society—such as mines, factories, and farms—are owned by the public or the state, and wealth is divided among citizens equally or according to individual need.
Leaders • Communist Party of China is a group of 4-9 people who make all of the significant decisions. • Power is controlled by the Paramount Leader. The leader is current HuJintao, he heads all 3 bodies of the government.
Provincial and Local Government • China is divided into provinces. Each province has a mayor that is appointed by the central government. • Below the province level there are 50 rural prefectures, 283 prefecture-level cities, level cities, 852 county level districts, and 1636 counties. There were also 662 cities, 808 urban districts, 43, 249 township level regions.
How leaders are selected • In China the communist party chooses the countries leaders. The leaders serve 5 year terms.
Consent of the governed an important principle in this country? • Consent of the governed is not important because in a communist country like China the leaders are not elected so the people do not have to give consent like in the United States when we have an election and get to choose our leaders.
Peaceful way to change the government • No, in communism in order to change the government a group of people would need to organize a coup to overtake the current government. China is the largest country in the world, and the largest communist country. It would be very difficult to change the government.
Do government leaders follow the rules • There isn’t a yes or no answer to this. I would say no because in Communism the leaders are the leaders and could be in office for many years and you as citizens of the country are expected to obey all rules.
