Global Polio Eradication Initiative The Global Polio Eradication Initiative is a public-private partnership led by: • World Health Organization (WHO) • Rotary International • Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) • United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) • In cooperation with: • Polio-affected country governments • Donor governments

PolioPlus Partners • Supports urgent social mobilization and surveillance projects • Established in 1995 • Sub-program of PolioPlus • Allows Rotarians to directly contribute to polio eradication projects submitted by fellow Rotarians in polio endemic, importation and high-risk countries through the Open Projects List

PolioPlus Partners • Media and posters • Caps, aprons, badges and megaphones • Stickers or balloons • Bicycles, 4-wheel drive vehicles and motorcycles • Vaccine carriers, refrigerators and ice packs Social Mobilization is organized community activities designed to help make immunization activities successful. Rotarians play a critical role in these activities by using PolioPlus Partners contributions to purchase: These tools are provided through PolioPlus Partners

PolioPlus Partners Open Projects List (OPL) • The OPL is the primary source of information for PolioPlus Partners projects. • The OPL is updated the 15th of every month on the RI Web site at: www.rotary.org/foundation/polioplus • The OPL should be shared with fellow Rotarians to demonstrate the continued, significant, and urgent needs for PolioPlus Partners. • Funding requirements currently exceed US $2.3 million

PolioPlus Partners Task Force PolioPlus Partners has a Task Force of dedicated Rotarians who are available to make presentations or answer questions related to Rotary’s involvement in polio eradication. • The Task Force is divided into nine Rotary regions • 10 regional assistant chairs • 46 zone coordinators • 54 members-at-large • A complete listing of members can be found in the Official Directory. The PolioPlus Partners Task Force has a GOAL of raising US$5 million in 2007-08

  12. 2007-08 PolioPlus Partners Challenge • 100% participation from all Rotary districts to allocate a minimum of 10% of their available DDF. • All Rotary clubs and districts have a club program for PolioPlus Partners by March 2008. • All clubs chartered after 1 July 2003 to consider making a club contribution, having a fundraiser or making individual contributions to PolioPlus Partners. • New members to contribute and become a part of Rotary’s number one goal of global polio eradication. • All Rotarians that view PolioPlus as their primary Rotary interest to make another contribution to PolioPlus Partners.

  13. Two Ways to Support PolioPlus Partners District Designated Funds (DDF):2007-08 DDF contributions are being matched US$.50 for every US$1.00 contributed. Cash Contributions:Cash contributions are matched US$ .50 for each US$1.00 donated through 2007-08.

  14. What Can Rotarians Do? • Make a donation TODAY • Ask your district leaders to donate DDF • Encourage new members and new clubs to donate • Schedule club programs and remain informed • Highlight publicly the role of Rotary in the Global Polio Eradication Initiative
