  4. Voltage: Difference in electric potential energy between two points in space or in a wire. Expressed in Joules per Coulomb.

  5. An Analogy

  6. Voltage: Can be thought of as the pressure pushing the water (electrons) along the hose (wire). Current, then, is a measure of how much water is flowing through the hose at any given point in time.

  7. So, what is a watt? A watt measures the rate of energy transfer through a wire. Remember, energy is measured in joules so watts are measured in joules per second.

  8. Reminder: Joules measure energy, but exactly do we mean by “energy”. Energy is the “currency” with which “work” can be performed.
