Traditional Clothing -Some traditional clothing include guardian deities, masks of Chinese opera characters, and lions. -If men are seen at social events they are seen wearing dignified and formal traditional Chinese long gowns. Women will be seen wearing the ch’i-p’ao, a modified form of traditional Ching Dynasty There are 3 types of traditional clothing in China 1.pien-fu 2. ch’ang-p’ao 3.shen-i

  3. Clothing • Many designers in China use a mixture of traditional and modern ideas to create new fashions. • The main textures are printed, woven, embroidered. Some have dragons, phoenixes, clouds, lightening on the fabric. • Macramé; the art of knotting cord or string in patterns to make decorative articles, is used to decorate shoulders, bodices, pockets, seams, belts, and necklaces.

  4. Weddings • Red is the typical wedding color in China. Red is considered good luck that can keep evil spirits away. • A traditional wedding dress in the north is a one piece frock named Qipao, with gold/silver embroidery. In the south, the brides prefer to wear a two-piece dress called Qungua or Kwa which has a gold dragon and phoenix. • The bride must wear a red veil that covers her face and shoulders and can’t take it off until everyone has left. Then the groom is the only one who can remove it.

  5. Colors • Red- Good luck, celebration, summoning • Yellow- Nourishing,  royalty • Green- Wearing a green hat in China implies that the man's wife is cheating on him. • Blue- Immortality • White- Death, mourning • Black- Color for young boys

  6. School Uniforms -They have uniforms that are the same as ones private schools wear in the U.S.

  7. Women/Men’s Clothing -Women and men’s clothing in China doesn’t differ that much from the clothes in the U.S.
