Lord of the Flies • For Tuesday, May 27th, please read the first five chapters of the novel (pp. 1-105). • When you return from the long weekend, you will be expected to be able to talk and write about: • Plot and Character • Big ideas, larger philosophical concerns, etc. • Formal Textual features: motifs, symbols, color, etc.

Antigone Micro Analysis “This is what Alfred Harbage notices when he remarks on ‘their unworldliness, the incapacity for compromise,’ and speaks of them as ‘imperfect ones torn by their dreams of perfections, mortals with immortal longings in them’”(McDonald 9). • What words/phrases are most complex? Which words/phrases will work best for constructing a specificthesis?

Does it embrace the complexity of both the quote and Antigone? • Does it include an observation (how Antigone exemplifies the quote) and explain what this observation suggestsabout Antigone, the tragic hero, a big idea, the world, human experience, etc.? Does it explain why this is significant?
