  1. How do you make an apple pie and see the world? Mrs. Pace’s class found out this week!

  2. We began by reading this really great book.

  3. Then we decided to try and make a pie ourselves. We had to figure out how to make a pie in the classroom…. our solution….THE MICROWAVE!

  4. We made our crust first!

  5. And then we began to make the filling. Logan adds brown sugar Stephen adds some flour We couldn’t quite travel around the world but we talked about where in the world the book character found each ingredient as we mixed and baked.

  6. Zachary shows us how to stir it up with love.

  7. Adding the filling to the crust Kassidy shows us how to gently add the apple filling that we made to the crust. We sure didn’t want to lose any of that apple goodness!

  8. Making the topping Kaylee measures out some flour to add to our oats mixture for the topping of our yummy pie.

  9. Then we put it in the microwave and cooked it! Our pie turned out great, but unfortunately we didn’t have a chance to take a picture of the final product before we ate it. It was so yummy! We didn’t see the world, but we talked about it and we made a great apple pie!

  10. Here is the recipe if you would like to try it at home. Directions 1- MICROWAVE DIRECTIONS: 1. Lightly spoon flour into measuring cup; level off. In medium bowl, combine 1 cup flour, 1 tablespoon sugar, 1/4 teaspoon salt, 1 teaspoon cinnamon and 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg. Using pastry blender or fork, cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Sprinkle flour mixture with water, 1 tablespoon at a time, while tossing and mixing lightly with fork. Add water until dough is just moist enough to hold together. 2- Shape dough into a ball. Flatten ball; smooth edges. On lightly floured surface, roll ball lightly from center to edge into circle 1 1/2 inches larger than inverted 9-inch microwave-safe pie pan. Fold dough in half; place in pie pan. Do not stretch. Fold edge under to form standing rim; flute. Prick bottom and sides of crust generously with fork. Microwave on HIGH for 5 to 6 minutes or until crust looks dry and flaky, rotating pan 1/4 turn twice during cooking. 3- In large bowl, combine all filling ingredients; mix well. Spoon filling into cooked crust. In same bowl, combine all topping ingredients; sprinkle over filling, covering completely. Microwave on HIGH for 10 to 14 minutes, rotating pan 1/4 turn twice during cooking, or until apples are tender and filling begins to bubble. Cool 10 minutes before serving.
