Student Math Requirements 1980s “Old-style” objectives 1992 Essential Competencies based on NCTM Standards • Content Standards & Benchmarks • Performance Standards K-4, 5-8, 9-12 & quite specific, but not aligned w/ assessment • Based on 2000 NCTM Standards K-8 grade specific and to be aligned w/ assessment

  8. High School Grad Requirements 1980 - 2 courses 1986 - 3 courses 2003 - 1 course has to be Algebra I 2009 - Add Geometry? 2010 - Add Algebra II? What data says kids are learning more? What unintended consequences? What support is needed?
