  13. 11. The cell uses three steps during respiration (#6) to convert glucose into ATP. Why? To prevent too much energy from being released all at once the cell traps the energy in the form of ATP so the energy can be used a little at a time.

  14. 12. Glycolysis Process where one molecule of glucose is broken in half and 2 molecules of pyruvic acid are produced. Uses up 2 molecules of ATP. Produces 4 molecules of ATP. (gain of 2 ATP molecules) Does not require oxygen.

  16. 14. Krebs Cycle Second stage of cellular respiration. Pyruvic acid is broken down in to carbon dioxide. High energy electrons are transferred to energy carriers, they are used to produce ATP.

  17. 15. Electron Transport The electron transport chain uses the electrons produced in the Krebs Cycle to covert ADP into ATP.
