Welcome Parents!Stearns - IB/AP History of the Americas • The course material in front of you is also available on my IHS staff website. • The index card is for you to write down any individual questions, concerns, or comments you have about your child in IB/AP History of the Americas. • At the end of the period, please leave the cards with me, and I will contact you regarding your comment within the week. Please indicate your child’s name and how to best contact you. • While we are waiting for everyone to filter in to class, please take a few minutes to review the materials.

About Me: • Robert Stearns • Ninth year in the Bellevue School District; Sixth year teaching at Interlake H.S. • Undergraduate degree in Sociology from the University of Connecticut • Master’s Degree in Teaching from Seattle U. • Zachary Mason • Masters in Teaching student at Seattle U. • Undergraduate degree in History from Pepperdine U. • Also an Interlake HS graduate! (’04)

What you can do to help: • Ask your student about his/her History homework or class work, make sure it has been completed, have them explain the information to you, ask follow-up questions! • Check my staff website for chapter outlines and other resources. • Use the textbook website for additions resources (practice quizzes). • Encourage your child to begin reading & notes for each chapter early! (Wed or Thurs) • Encourage your child to attend tutorial if he/she needs help or has questions. (I can’t help if they don’t come in!) • Encourage your child to get to know and work with other students. (Study groups = support = success!) • Encourage your child to contact me with any concerns. If they won’t, then contact me if you have any concerns about your student; I’m here to support you.

  5. Resources for your Students: • TUTORIAL • ALL teachers have office hours from 2:30-3:05 Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Students can ask teachers for extra help.
