  4. Graduation Programs • Texas requires that all students work toward one of two graduation programs: • The Recommended Program or • The Distinguished Achievement Program (DAP)

  5. 4X4 Graduation Requirements • Students entering 9th grade in 2007 to • earn 26 credits to graduate • 4 English, 4 Math, 4 Science, 4 Social Studies • 2 Foreign Language • Comm. App. (Speech) / Health • 1 Technology Application • 1 Fine Art • 1.5 PE or Class that waives PE • 3.5 Electives

Differences in the Recommended and Distinguished Programs The major differences in the two programs • The DAP requires three rather than two years of the same foreign language and • The DAP requires four advanced measures which include • One measure maximum: National Recognition on PSAT • Two measures maximum: Original Research/Project • Four measures maximum: • Performance on AP exams (Scoring 3, 4, or 5); • Grades in college credit courses (Grades of “A” or “B”)

  7. Promotion Policy and Its Implications • In order to move from grade level to grade level, students must • earn a total number of credits each year • have some of those credits in specific courses • To advance to the • 10th grade = 6 total credits including English & math • 11th grade = 12 total credits including 2 in English, 2 in math, 1 science & 1 social studies • 12th grade = 18 total credits & enrolled in all courses needed for graduation.

  8. Class Rank • Your students will be ranked based on all courses required for graduation. • Each student’s weighted cumulative grade point average is used to assign a rank position. • Weights: Pre-AP = 1.15, AP = 1.29
