  4. College Application Guidelines • Prepare a resume from grades 9-12 activities • State Universities prefer online applications – go to the school’s website. • Senior Schedule • Essay (if required) • Application Fee

  5. Make the Application Complete • Transcript – request form in guidance office. Cost = $2.00 for paper copies. No charge for online transcripts or for scholarship purposes. • SAT/ACT scores • Counselor Recommendation (if required)

  6. What Colleges Look For . . . • Grade Point Average • Difficulty of curriculum (rigor of senior schedule) • SAT or ACT scores • Class Rank • Application essays • Extracurricular Activities • Recommendations (upon request) • Interviews (upon request)

Florida Academic Scholar • 3.5 weighted GPA on select core classes • Test score: 1270 SAT OR 28 ACT • 75 hours of documented Community Service • Must maintain a 3.0 in college • Will cover $125 per semester hour Tuition at a Florida university (4 year school) • Will cover $77 per semester hour Tuition at a Florida Community College • Does not cover summer terms

Florida Medallion Scholar • 3.0 weighted GPA on select core classes • Test Score: 970 SAT OR 20 ACT** • Must maintain a 2.75 in college • Will cover $94 per semester hour Tuition at a Florida university (4 year school). • Will cover $58 per semester hour Tuition at a Florida Community College • Does not cover summer terms • **Test score requirements will increase beginning with the 2011-2012 grads.

Florida Gold Seal Vocational Scholar • 3.0 weighted GPA on select core courses (does not include foreign language) • 3 courses in a vocational area • 3.5 GPA in the vocational courses • SAT: Critical Reading 440, Math 440 OR • ACT: English 17, Reading 18, Math 19 OR • CPT: Reading 83, Sentence Skills 83, Algebra 72 • Will cover $94 per semester hour Tuition at a Florida 4 year Institution • Will cover $58 per semester hour Tuition at a Florida Community College • Does not cover summer terms

  11. Community Service Beginning with the 2010-2011 Senior Class, Students must submit a community service proposal to have documented service hours. Maximum of 3 proposals that target a social issue. Proposals and service hours must be submitted to Guidance Counselor

  12. Florida Virtual School 1. www.sdhc.k12.fl.us/virtual 2. Click Florida Virtual login 3. Login – follow directions for new student or established student 4. Select the classes you want to take. Select Florida Virtual if student has a full day schedule. If not the student selects Hillsborough version. 5. Notify school guidance counselor of courses registered. 6. The virtual teacher will contact the student. Have a problem with password call 1-866-322-8324
