  5. Step One: Glycolysis • Where? • Glucose is split in half, making two pyruvates. • Energy from the broken bond makes

  6. Step Two: Kreb’s Cycle • Where? • Acetyl CoA is made using oxygen. • What else is made? • Broken bonds make • The Acetyl CoA is broken down, creating stored energy for step three.

  7. Step Three:Electron Transport Chain • Stored energy from the Kreb’s Cycle is used to make • The leftover hydrogen combines with oxygen to make water.

  9. What if there is no oxygen? • Fermentation happens after glycolysis. • In yeast and bacteria, pyruvate is turned into alcohol. • In animals, pyruvate is turned into lactic acid. • No more ATP is made! • This is called anaerobic respiration.
