Explanation of data hierarchy Element – A fundamental aspect of civil engineering i.e. earthworks/drainage/etc Sub Element – An aspect of an element i.e. a type of drainage option Component – Sub elements comprise of a number of components. For example drainage options would consist of pipe, bedding, top soil etc (all of which are components)
