  1. PIP Status Report Presented by F. G. Garcia on behalf of PIP Group

  2. Shutdown 2012 Activities – Booster Status Report

  3. PIP - Booster • Booster RF Solid State Upgrade • About 50% stations have been converted to SS • (BRF[1-8] and BRF12, BRF19) • Cavity refurbishment • 5% cavity refurbished • installed 5/2/2012 Located at L17 • BRF7 cavity testing started last Friday, 6/29. • Two more cavities removed from the tunnel to be worked next • BRF5 has been moved to MI60 and the other (BRF6) remains in the tunnel. • Utilities / LCW • The candy cane and choke tubing jobs are done for now, still need a few repairs.  • The Booster LCW system schedule to be drained starting today. • Proceeding with • proceeding with • BRF valve replacements, • magnet valve replacements and • strainer installation.

  4. Shutdown 2012 Activities – Linac Status Report

  5. PIP - Linac Power Distribution L1 Transformer Upgrade and MCC • Substation • All approval drawings submitted • Testing is expected to take place August 8-10 • Delivery will occur soon after testing is completed • MCC • All approval drawings submitted • Expected arrival date of Mid to Late August • Drawings approved on 5/30/2012 • Cable • All cable delivered • Stored in LINAC • 350 MCM will be stored at warehouse until installation is closer • Panel board • Delivered • Needs to be assembled • Safety Switches • Delivered • Stored in LINAC • Cable Supports • Delivered • Stored in LINAC • Support Structures • Will be built out of unistrut • Assembly has not yet begun • Support frames will be built in house • Junction Box • Drawing is complete • Fabrication companies have yet to respond • Since only one needs to be ordered it is unlikely that a company will construct this enclosure • Will be submitting the drawing to the machine shop soon

  6. PIP - Linac Instrumentation BPM Project Scope • Update existing RF electronics with Digital electronics • FPGA, ADC, Digital Signal Processing • Long term stability • Flexibility to modify system as needed • Implement calibration system to improve long-term stability • Implement phase measurement for Time of Flight/Energy measurement • Replaced one full crate before shutdown • 6 Pickups – D02, D03, D04, D11, D72, D73, • Position, Intensity, and Phase readback to ACNET Current Status • Received first fully production board before shutdown for checkout • Found error in PCB • Require remaking 80 PCB • $5k additional cost • $10k additional cost due to parts • New PCBs in production

  7. PIP - Linac Vacuum System • Purchased two large blower stations. To be installed this shutdown • Approval to proceed with A0 dewar repair. PO written and submitted. 7835 Procurement • Purchased two new 7835 tubes • Both tubes have been received. Appropriated stored awaiting RF testing.

  8. Shutdown 2012 Activities – RFQ Status Report

  9. PIP - RFQ • RFQ energy investigation • Manufacturer making thinner rods • Independent simulations show ~5% energy loss at the extraction gap End plate removed: Preliminary measured energy = (756.5 ± 0.5) keV PRELIMINARY Current Status: Still planning to install thinner rods More adjustments on the RFQ and tests continue on efficiency and capture
