  1. Digital Electronics Part 1: The Spark of Technology

  2. Objectives Indicator Statement: Analyze the functioning and applications of electrical systems. Objective(s):Explain science and mathematical concepts applied in electrical technology. Such as: Resistance Current (AC & DC) Voltage Circuits Magnetism Ohm’s Law Ratio Identify and describe how various types of electric circuits (i.e. series and parallel) provide a means of transferring and using electrical energy to produce heat, light, sound, as well as chemical changes. Solve for the unknown in a linear equation related to electrical technology. Long Reach High School - Foundations of Technology - Mr. Ash

  3. The Big Picture Electricity is a natural force of nature. It is a general term for the presence and flow of electrons making an electric charge. Over the past 100 years people have harnessed this force and integrated it into a variety of electronic devices that have become the backbone of our society. Long Reach High School - Foundations of Technology - Mr. Ash

  4. Electrical Vs. Electronic Electronic Technology The technology of using small amounts of electricity for controlling, detecting, collecting, storing, retrievingand processing information Electrical Technology The technology of producing, storing, controlling, transmitting and getting work from electrical energy. Thermostat, Computer, Cell Phone, Digital Watch, etc. Generator, Motor, Electric Heater, etc. Long Reach High School - Foundations of Technology - Mr. Ash

  5. Circuitry An Electronic Circuit consist of a path for electrons to flow from an energy source. TheAmount of Electron Flow depends on the resistance in the circuit. More Resistance = Less Flow. If there are no components in a circuit except a battery it causes a short circuit which drains the charge quickly. Long Reach High School - Foundations of Technology - Mr. Ash

  6. Tri-force (Voltage, Current, Resistance) Long Reach High School - Foundations of Technology - Mr. Ash

  7. Ohm’s Law Voltage V = I R x GeorgOhm’s Law V R I = Ohm suggested that if you double the Voltage across something that provides resistance, then the current would double. V I R = Current Resistance Long Reach High School - Foundations of Technology - Mr. Ash

  8. Series vs. Parallel Circuits There are two ways of connecting components: … in Series … in Parallel Each component has the same current. If two components are identical voltage is divided equally. Each component has the same voltage. Both components have full voltage. Long Reach High School - Foundations of Technology - Mr. Ash

  9. Circuit Symbols Wire Battery (Cell) WIRES JOINED WIRES NOT JOINED LED (Light Emitting Diode) Ground (Earth) Long Reach High School - Foundations of Technology - Mr. Ash

  10. Circuit Symbols Resistor Lamp (Light Bulb) Buzzer Meters Switches Push Button Switch SPST – Normal Switch Volt Meter Ammeter Long Reach High School - Foundations of Technology - Mr. Ash

  11. Review An Electronic Circuit consist of a path for to flow from an energy source. Voltage electrons Current Resistance Wire Resistor WIRES NOT JOINED Long Reach High School - Foundations of Technology - Mr. Ash
