  3. METHODS AND TEACHING • Teaching is defined as instructing, tutoring or educating. • It stands for pedagogy, training and nurturing. • As a profession it is taken as a mission to mold the young. • Some refer to it as an occupation for living.

LEARNING IS THE ULTIMATE GOAL • The vital role of teachers is to engage the students in activities that will enable them to acquire knowledge and skills, at the same time develop worthwhile values and attitudes. • Teacher must possess the ability to plan and organize all the needed task to performed appropriately timed and adequately provided with suitable materials. • It is hardly possible to make children learn without a precise method.

It is a procedure that must followed “strictly” to attain goal. • Educators take method as “a pattern or manner of treating people, objects, and events, that is directed purposely toward the achievement of an instructional goal.” • In teaching, method is a systematic plan to achieve a learning objective.

  8. Questioning • Explaining • Modeling

  9. Questioning -Testing and questioning are always known to be effective methods due to its interactive nature. -The intention is to know what the students has learned from earlier discussion and it helps in deciding what should be taught further.

  10. Explaining - The explanation should be accompanied with suitable examples for the better understanding of the students.

  11. Modeling -is a type of visual aid for teaching as well as learning. It is a known fact that human brains absorb more and understand better when visual aid facilitates explanation.

  12. Strategies

Carefully devised plan of action to achieve an objective in the battlefield. • It denotes a “clever” and cunning design to achieve an end. • In teaching, strategy suggest a teacher’s unique way of presenting topic to the learners, characterized by adeptness in performing the steps with utmost care to insure the attainment of the learning objective.

  14. The following recommendations can help make the lecture approach more effective 1. Fit the lecture to the audience. 2. Focus your topic - remember you cannot cover everything in one lecture. 3. Prepare an outline that includes major points you want to cover in one lecture. 4. Organize your points for clarity. 5. Select appropriate examples or illustrations. 6. Present more than one side of an issue and be sensitive to other perspectives. 7. Repeat points when necessary. 8. Be aware of your audience - notice their feedback. 9. Be enthusiastic - you don’t have to be an entertainer but you should be excited by your topic.

  15. TECHNIQUES

  16. Refers to the art, style or manner of a teachers performance in following a procedure. • It includes the ability or expertise in carrying out a task in a cautions and “watchful” way. • Teacher should use more attractive familiar materials in the room, instead of what is commonly used.

  18. Role playing - In most role playing exercises each students takes the role of a person affected by an issue and studies an issue or events from perspective of that person.
