  1. HatchetBy Gary Paulsen Allison McQueen 6 period

  2. Setting Brian Robeson is in a two person plane when the pilot has a heart attack. Brian has to land the plane. Brian lands the plane in a deep lake in the Alaskan wilderness. When Brian gets on shore he sees a lot of trees and when he tries to lay down there is wood in his way he lays down it is very cold and wet. The book would be different if the setting were different because he only has a hatchet and nothing else. He would probably be with his dad in the book instead of in the wilderness.

  3. Character One of the3 main characters is Brian. 1. Brian has brown hair. 2.Brian has brown eyes. 3.Brian is wearing a windbreaker, jeans and a tee shirt. 1.Brian is smart. It is good to be smart in the wilderness so that you wont eat any thing that is bad for you. 2.Brian is very useful. It is good to be useful in the wilderness so that you will not be lazy. 3. Brian has a lot of survival skills. It is good to have survival skills in the wilderness so that you can make a fire. Another main character in the book is the pilot. • The pilot has brown hair. • The pilot has brown eyes. 3. The pilot is wearing a light jacket and some corduroys. • The pilot is very useful to which is good so you can get a lot of customers. • The pilot is very positive so that you wont be boring. • The pilot is very ritch that is good so you wont be poor

  4. Conflict The main conflict in Hatchet is that Brian is stuck on a plane by himself he has to land it. He lands the plane in a lake and now he has to get to shore when he gets to shore he has nothing but the hatchet that his mother gave him before he left .It is a large conflict.

  5. Summary of plot Exposition: Brian and the pilot Brian is thirteen it is during the winter. Conflict: The conflict is that he is stranded in the wilderness with only his hatchet. Rising action: The Rising action is that he needs to build a shelter and he needs to get food. Rising action : He drops his hatchet in the lake so he has to dive down and go get it. He saw that all of the animals were sneaking in and eating his food. A bear is eating berries in the woods and Brian ran into him. Climax: The climax is that he found a way to keep his food fresh and away from animals he buried it. Falling action: The falling action is that he made a sign so that he can get rescued. He made a blanket. He made a gate so the animals could not get in.

  6. Theme Survival skills are good when you need them. • “I made a hole in the ground and put the remains of the fish in it” • “ I rubbed some rocks together under some grass” • “ There Was a tree right there I said He went under it and laid down so the rain cant get the best of me”

  7. Point of view The point of view makes the reader understand why you need survival skills. So you can make a fire and build a shelter and get food .The story would be different with a different point of view because Brian is telling the story and he knows what he went through if someone else wrote it then they would not know what he went through exactly.

  8. Symbolism The symbolism of the story you should know how to take care of yourself. Brian is a 13 year old boy that lands a plane and when he was in the plane he had to stay in a plane with a dead body. He finds how to feed himself he makes a coat because it is very cold.

  9. Recommendation I recommend this to all young readers because it shows a life long lesson and it is a very good adventure book that everybody would like.
