Example 1 • The guys pulls up in his car there is music in the background it feels non diegetic but it could be his car radio (diegetic) • But we know it is non diegetic as he gets out off his car and turns it off and the music continues to play- has been added in to create a sense of atmosphere for the reader • The sound builds as he moves toward the store as soon as he enters though the music changes • Its still the same track/piece of music but it has been put in a style like elevator music that you might hear in the convivence store • Editor has played around with what we are understanding in the movies world- going from building the atmosphere to becoming apart of the scene
Example 2- Star wars Trailer Sound is very important in this example Trailers are very dramatic so sound is usually more prominent If we look visually we see the sea, scenery, light they are all beautiful images but we are not being told the story just through the images alone We need the sound/layers of sound so the scene makes sense
First thing is the Nondiegetic music/sound Followed by her heavy breathing- Dialogue Theme Music- music that we recognise from previous films Lots of voice over music changed to something darker for something darker for the character hinting that they could be the villain Some ambient sounds and we hear the lightsabre Crashing and all the different noises The importance of volume in the edit of your sound- building up to a crescendo and then pulls back and we hear dialogue and draw attention to the speech Example 2 – Star wars
Leitmotif • Recurrent theme through the whole musical composition with associates to a particular person, idea or situation • In the trailer it uses the Skywalker Leitmotif to remind us he is still a character in star wars world • Darth Vade Leitmotif is very different it is a lot darker and more military. Skywalker Darth Vader
