Facts About Ludwig Van Beethoven • German composer and pianist of the Classical Era (1750-1820) • First public performance was in March of 1778 at age 7 • Wrote his first published composition by March of 1783 (age 12) • Around 1796, Beethoven began to lose his hearing • Composed nine symphonies, numerous piano pieces including 32 sonatas, 10 violin sonatas, 5 cello sonatas, 1 sonata for french horn, and various other trios, quartets, and quintets • Composed several famous pieces including Fur Elise http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_mVW8tgGY_w

  6. Symphony No. 5 • Symphony No. 5 is one of the most popular and well known classical pieces • Composed from 1804-1808 • Premiered on December 22, 1808 • Begins with the very distinct motive “short-short-short- long”
