Sentence Types • Simple (S) • Expanded Simple (ES) • Compound (CD) • Complex (CX) • Compound-complex (CD-CX)
Simple Sentences • Subject + Verb • They have no other added information • Examples • Laura left. • Christine sneezed. • They drove.
Expanded Simple Sentences • Subject + Verb + “Extra” • “Extra” includes: adverbs, adjectives, prepositional phrases, and/or direct objects • Examples: • The puppy pounced quickly. • We went over the river. • The batter hit the ball.
