  1. Microclimate Study @ HCI Done by Chia Zi Xuan (03), Jonas Gng (13), Jorshall Law (14), Raine Wong (22), & Liu Junhao (21)

  2. Locations • A:Top Floor of Multi-Storey Car Park • B: Garden outside printing room • C: Open space between canteen and block C • D: Terraces • E: Field • F: Running Track • G: Fountain outside General Office

  3. Pre field work • We did a pre field work comparing the temperatures of the different locations where 1 was the coolest and 7 was the hottest.

  4. Categorisations We found that the locations could be categorised into two different groups: Concrete and Non-Concrete locations. Locations A, C, D and G are all Concrete locations. Locations B,E and F are all Non-Concrete locations.

  5. Class hypothesis Concrete surfaces are hotter than non- concrete surfaces Locations B,E and F Locations A, C, D and G Higher temperature reading

  6. Temperature Recordings (Day 1)

  7. Temperature Recordings (Day 1) We did not manage to complete our recordings on Day 1. Thus, we will only complete the table up to where we finished.

  8. Temperature Recordings (Day 2)

  9. Average for the 2 days (1.5m reading)

  10. Hypothesis test • Average of concrete surfaces: about 29.3 °C • Average of non concrete surfaces: 28.9 °C Conclusion: Concrete surfaces are hotter than non concrete surfaces Our hypothesis is right

  11. Difference in temperature (location) Plants and water near the area lower the temperature due to water and the plants absorbing the surrounding heat. Shaded areas always have a lower temperature due to no direct sunlight reaching the area. The concrete radiates more heat; thus their locations are usually hotter Most concrete areas are also exposed to direct sunlight.

  12. Difference in temperature (Days) • There was average difference of 2°C between day 1 and day 2 for all sites • Possible reasons: • There was more shade of day 2 compared to day 1due to increased cloud cover

  13. Thank you for your kind attention
