  1. Field Work Microclimate Study Han Xiang Yu, Shawn Lim, Wang Hao Jia, Yang Po

  2. Hypothesis: Places with concrete flooring are hotter than those with non-concrete flooring

  3. Data collected

  4. Site A: Top floor of multi-storey carpark

  5. Reasons for temperature at that area - No Shade - Concrete road • - No shadow from surrounding buildings Site A

  6. Site B: Garden outside printing room

  7. Reasons for temperature at that area - Vegetation - Some shade from trees • - Cloud Cover • - Concrete path Site B

  8. Site C: Open Area Outside Canteen

  9. Reasons for temperature at that area - Some shade from buildings - Concrete Surface - Cloud Cover Site C

  10. Site D: Terraces

  11. Reasons for temperature at that area - Little shade - Concretesurface - Direct sunlight Site D

  12. Site E: Field

  13. Reasons for temperature at that area - No Shade - Grassy surface - Direct sunlight Site E

  14. Site F: Running track

  15. Reasons for temperature at that area - No Shade - Synthetic rubber track - Cloud cover / Direct sunlight Site F

  16. Site G: Fountain Area

  17. Reasons for temperature at that area • - Next to water body • - Concrete flooring - Cloud cover Site G

  18. Conclusion (Compare with Hypothesis)

  19. Average temperature for concrete flooring: 29.05°C

  20. Average temperature for non-concrete floorings: 29.9 °C

  21. Places with concrete flooring are in fact cooler than those with non-concrete flooring

  22. Possible Reasons for Observations: Cloud cover and position of sun at that time Human and experimental error. Different time arrived at site could affect temperature takings. Confined space VS open space Difference in standing position ( In shade of in the sun)

  23. Thank You!
