What Is Operation: Military Kids (OMK)? • A partnership between the Army and USDA through the Land-Grant University in each state • Created to serve geographically dispersed youth affected by deployment • Main goals • educate communities of pressures of the deployment cycle • create local networks to support Guard and Reserve families • We are PURPLE – all branches

  3. Hero Packs Purpose: to serve as a tangible example of support for the military youth from the community In each pack, a hand-written letter from another youth is included as a verbal form of appreciation Great Community Service Project

  4. Hug A dolls • Designed for pre-deployment, the dolls are a special display of love that helps youth stay bonded with a parent throughout deployment

  5. Mobile Tech Lab Supports “STEM”Science, Technology, engineering, math Laptops, iPads, Digital Cameras, GPS, Snap Circuits, Robotics,Rocketry, NASA

  6. CAMPS • STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) • Yellow Ribbon Support • Family Bonding Retreats • Wounded Warrior Retreats • Teen CERT Training • Baby Sitting Course

  7. Purple Coalition for Military Kids Who: Groups/Individuals who work with Military Kids and their Families What: Share ideas, needs, and resources Why: To support those who have support our us

  8. DID YOU KNOW? South Carolina 4-H has limited resources to develop clubs for Military Youth (can include non-military youth) across the state with curriculum set to state standards. Science club Nature club Robotics club You “name it” club

  9. Mobile science and technology education for your community • Audience Served: • Student target ages: 5-19 • Public, private schools, and homeschool Teachers • Parents and volunteers • Community groups and organizations • Business and industry
