  44. Dear Parents/Guardians: Welcome to Physical Education at Texas Middle School! Physical activity provides students with opportunities for enjoyment and social interaction. Increased physical fitness improves heart and lung function, reduces body fat and decreases the risk of disease. Studies conducted by the American Heart Association show that regular physical activity can promote clear thinking and can increase student’s performance in other subjects. Our goal is to educate students on the benefits of regular physical activities and to find activities that they can enjoy for the rest of their life. We will have units in golf, dance, swimming, and other lifetime sports. Throughout our program we would like to encourage students to incorporate a wellness plan into their daily lives by participating in regular physical activity and making healthy nutritional choices. There are more ways to be active than participating in sports and we are sure that we can find activities that everyone can enjoy. We understand that all students are different and will not be at the same developmental or fitness level. We will provide modifications and challenges appropriately to see that all students experience success and are able to work at their own pace. We are looking forward to an active and exciting year! Please know that parents and guardians are always invited to observe and/or participate in our Physical Education classes. Thank you, Texas Middle School Physical Education Department
