  1. Good Morning, come in, and when the bell rings you should be silently copying the current events.9/16/2013 What was different about the new Miss America who was crowned last night in Atlantic City, NJ? What does this say about our country? In the nine months since the shooting in Newtown, CT, what issue has continued to polarize Americans? Tonight the president is scheduled to give a speech on the 5-year anniversary of what issue?

  2. 9/16/2013 • Yesterday Nina Davuluri was voted the nation’s first Miss America of Indian descent. The 24- year old Syracuse native plans to be a doctor. • One of the issues which has most polarized our country is the issue of the rights of gun owners. In April, supporters of stricter gun regulations were disappointed when the Senate defeated several measures to create more regulations on the purchase of guns. • President Obama will speak tonight on the 5 year anniversary of the 2008 financial crisis. Five years ago, many believed the US was on the verge of a second great depression. Many financial powerhouses like Lehman Brothers shut down and were later bailed out by the federal government. Is it just for the federal government to bail out large corporations but not private citizens?

  3. 9/17/2013 • Even through this person has not formally announced their candidacy, who is considered the Democratic frontrunner for the 2016 election? Who is considered the Republican frontrunner? • What tragic event transpired yesterday at the Navy Yard in Washington, DC? How does this add to the discussion we began yesterday? • What unfortunate Charlotte event is making national news on the heels of a summer filled with racial tensions due to the Trayvon Martin verdict?

  4. 9/17/13 • According to a CNN poll, 65% of democrats and independents have marked Hillary Clinton as the frontrunner for the democratic nomination in 2016. Vice-President _______________, actually trails at 10%. Has Joe Biden run for president before? How many times? Also accroding to CNN, while there is no clear republican frontrunner, 17% or republicans stated support for ___________ governor, Chris Christie and 16% for Paul Ryan. Who is Paul Ryan? • Yesterday at the historic Navy Yard in Washington, DC, 12 people were murdered and 14 were injured in a mass shooting rampage carried out by navy reservist and military contractor, Aaron Alexis. Alexis was shot and killed during the encounter. • Jonathan Ferrell, an unarmed man who had just been in a traffic accident was shot 10 times by CMPD officer, Randall Kerrick. Kerrick has been charged with involuntary manslaughter and will appear in court this morning.

  5. 9/18/2013 • What has lead to the devastation in Colorado? • Who is Damon Jones and why have issues involving him been making news?

  6. 9/18/2013 • John Andrew Welden was indicted yesterday because last year after his pregnant girlfriend got an infection and needed an anti-biotic, he tricked her by creating a fake label for the bottle and instead gave her the abortion pill causing her to miscarry. If he would have gone to trial, he would have faced life in prison if he would have been convicted. Because he accepted a plea deal, he is facing up to thirteen years in prison. • She scored a legal victory in an anti-discrimination suit because she was fired by a Hollister store for wearing her hijab. Eleven days after she was fired they offered her her job back if she did not wear her hijab to work; she refused.
