Warm up 12/18/13 • Question: Balance: Al + O2Al2O3 • Answer: • 4Al +3O2 2Al2O3 • Goal: I will learn to calculate formula mass.
ELEMENT OF THE DAY • 45 – Rhodium – Rh • Rhodium is an impurity in platinum ore, and so its price varies widely depending on how much platinum is being mined (1 pound in 2004 was $5,000 and in 2008 was $110,000!). • A very thin coating of rhodium is what makes most costume jewelry so shiny. • Rhodium, as well as many other precious metals, are used in catalytic converters in automobiles.
