  5. Social Networks Versus ESNs ESNsfocus on the employee and allow you to instantly connect, communicate, and collaborate with people from across your organization wherever you are. Social networks focus on the individual and allow you to instantly connect and communicate with people from across the worldwherever you are.

  6. Traditional Systems Create Silos Different organizational functions sit in different systems (for example, Sales sits in customer relationship management (CRM), Finance in enterprise resource planning (ERP)). This often prevents employees from connecting with each other. Email silos the information shared between small groups of people, which are typically those you work with on a daily basis. This prevents information sharing across the organization. Traditional systems do not allow you to tap into tribal knowledge or easily locate expertise across the organization.

  7. Enterprise Social Networks Connect ESNs allow you to connect with anyone in the organization, no matter what department they are in or what business application they use. They also enable you to search conversations that have already occurred, accessing others’ expertise and tribal knowledge.

  17. How to Get Yammer

  18. Yammer Explained Yammer is an Enterprise Social Network that brings social networking to the business world. Yammer allows employees to: Sign up for and use Yammer for free, and upgrade to the more powerful enterprise edition at any time. Collaborate both internally and externally by controlling home and external network access, helping you connect with partners, customers, and vendors. Manage the growth of the network by controlling who is allowed to invite users. (Enterprise edition only) Connect to the entire organization with groups, robust search, and integrations with other business applications.

  19. Yammer is Free and Accessible Yammer’s business model is best described by the term freemium, which means that you can sign up and use Yammer for free. • Upgrade to the Enterprise version at any time. • The Enterprise version includes administrative features, integrations, and additional services. • There is no need to recreate content when you upgrade. Yammer allows for both internal and external collaboration. • Signing up with your corporate email address puts you in the home network that corresponds to your email domain. • Access to home network content is limited to those with the corresponding email domain. • In the Enterprise version of Yammer, you can combine multiple domains for the same network. • Home network members can create an external network where the administrator can control who is invited, allowing you to connect with partners, customers, and vendors.

  20. Inviting and Connecting on Yammer There are several ways to manage the growth of your network: • Network members can invite anyone with the appropriate email domain to join the network. • Administrators on the Enterprise version can invite guests with any email domain to join. • Control the invitation process by using directory integrationwithin the Enterprise version. • On an external network, the administrator can control who is allowed to send invitations. Yammer connects the entire organization: • Integrations allow you to send information from business applications to Yammer and have conversations around them. • Search allows you to tap into past conversations and the expertise of the entire organization. • Groups allow you to connect with others based on your interests and projects. • The All Company groupfacilitates organization-wide communication and collaboration.

  21. Moving Beyond the Basic Network Whether it's for teams to collaborate on projects, company-wide collaboration to accelerate your business, or an intranet replacement that connects your enterprise, Yammer provides a variety of plans to meet your needs: Note that Office 365 + Yammer also includes SharePoint Online. 22. Yammer’s Development Methodology

  23. We Build Yammer with Intention We build features with users in mind. • We talk to our customers and brainstorm different ways to solve their problems. • Our team translates the best ideas into a set of features that make up our product roadmap. We think big, but start small. • We design a plan to build just the core aspects of a feature. • We aim to deliver new features to users in just a few weeks’ time. • Delivering features in small increments helps us course-correct as necessary.

  24. We Form Teams, Test, and Refine We form a team and build. • After planning, we assemble a small team of engineers, designers, and product managers. • This team works together to build the feature as quickly as they can. We test every new feature by employing A/B testing. • We launch the feature to a subset of users and compare their experience with that of users who don’t have the feature. • We control all the variables in the test, helping to ensure that our data is accurate. We refine the feature based on data. • We examine core metrics, such as engagement and retention. • If the experiment group shows higher rates of engagement and retention, we consider the new feature a winner.

  25. Why Do We Build This Way? Our iterative approach helps users adapt to new features gradually over time. Our rapid-release cycle of building, testing, analyzing, and iterating allows us to meet needs as they arise. We want our users get access to new features instantly, so we made sure that Yammer lives in the cloud. There is never a need to upgrade or install anything, and the cloud makes it convenient for us to measure all of our test results across different organizations.
