  3. Pupillary Light Reflex The pupillary light reflex is the constriction and dilation of the pupil in response to light. It is a protective mechanism that prevents excessive light from entering the eye and damaging the retina. In TBI patients, the pupillary light reflex provides valuable information about the integrity of the brainstem and cranial nerves. Assessment of Pupillary Light Reflex Pupillary light reflex can be assessed using various methods, including direct and consensual responses, the swinging flashlight test, and pupilometers.
