(2010)

  3. more infomation... • Up until 1936, the winter olympics only had five games: alpine and cross-country skiing, ski jumping, figure skating, and speed skating. • The games in the Winter Olympics were held every four years until they were interrupted by World War II. Quick Fact: The United States was an ally with Russia in this war.

President of Russia

  11. When and Where will these Olympics take place??? • The game will be held on Friday, February 7- Sunday, February 23.(16 days) • From Chicago to Sochi, Russia it’s a 14 hour time difference. You can watch the winter olympics on channel 5,NBC in Chicago, even if you don’t have cable.

  12. Preparations • Vladimir Putin spent $51 billion on a new olympic stadium • The olympics is planned to be showcase at the president’s favorite ski area/resort, Caucasus Mountains along the Black Sea.

  13. Your safety matters….. • Six people were killed last week when a suicide bomb exploded on a bus in Volgograd. The attack was blamed on a 30-year-old woman from Dagestan, the North Caucasus province at the centre of an insurgency. • It was the deadliest such blast outside the volatile North Caucasus region in nearly three years, according to Reuters, and raised fears of further Islamist attacks ahead of the Winter Olympics in February in Sochi, close to the mainly Muslim North Caucasus. • The Islamist fighters’ leader plans for them to still try and attack at the games. President Vladimir Putin has been directing security forces to crack down on radical Islamists, the women bombers. The draft law debated on further public discussion on security measures for the Games that requires all demonstrations scheduled for that period to be held before or after the Olympics. EVERYONE BOW YOUR HEADS FOR PRAYER

  14. Criticism Russia doesn’t want • The Games have been widely criticized by local residents because of their record high costs and alleged damage to the area’s environment, as well as rights violations of workers and local residents. • Amid calls from LGBT advocates for countries to boycott the Olympics, the IOC stated in August 2013 that ithad "received assurances from the highest level of government in Russia that the legislation will not affect those attending or taking part in the Games"; this was contradicted in a statement three days later made by Russia's Ministry of the Interior, which stated that the anti-propaganda laws would still be enforced in Sochi. The IOC also confirmed that they would enforce Rule 50 of the Olympic Charter, which forbids political protest, against athletes who make displays of support for the LGBT community.

  15. The anticipation is killing us Women's figure skating is the most popular figure skating event at the Winter Olympics. Some people are having concerns on if hockey will be available at the olympics this upcoming year. What we recommend: • snowboarding: sliding on a board with sticks in the snow is awesome. • figure skating: it one of the few sports that has been in the olympics since they started and it would be great to see the changes it has had due to modern times. • short track speed skating: multiple people skating at once so closely, it cool, duh.
