  1. Aim: How did belief systems spread out around the world? Do Now: If you walk up & down Main St. we can eat food from all around the world; Chinese food, Mexican food, Jewish food, Italian food, Indian food, etc. What makes this possible?

Spread of Religion Vocabulary • Missionaries [mish-uh-ner-ees]– people dedicated to spreading a religion • Diaspora [dahy-as-per-uh]– the scattering of people, happened when the Romans expelled (threw out) the Jews from Palestine in 135 A.D. • Convert [kon-vurt]– a person who switches from one religion to another. Ex: Mauryan ruler Asoka converted to Buddhism • SAT Word of the Day – • foible [foi-buhl]– a minor character flaw • Ex: Alex’s foible in school is that his notebook is unorganized.

  3. Task # 1 • Examine the handout – Expansion of World Religions • Underline or highlight the important information in each paragraph • Utilize the underlined information to fill out the graphic organizer on the back

  4. Task # 2 – use the reading to show on the world map where different religions have spread…B = Buddhism J = Judaism C = Christianity I = Islam

  5. F.S.Q. – Index Card/Exit Quiz • Choose 1 religion & explain how it spread & where it spread to…answers must be 3 FULL SENTENCES • Index Card will be handed in & count as a 100 point quiz grade!
