Parallelograms

A parallelogram is defined the following way:

a four-sided shape made up of two pairs of straight parallel lines

that are equal in length

1) If you can show opposite sides are parallel, then you also know that

opposite sides are congruent.

2) Conversely, if you can show opposite sides are congruent, then you also

know that opposite sides are parallel.

Prove that A(0,0), B (3,4), C (7,9) and D (4,5) form aparallelogram

by showing opposite sides are parallel?

Since there are four sides, you need to find the slope of each side.

If two pairs of sides have the same slope, then you know opposite sides

are parallel.

Find the slope of AB, BC, CD, and AD.

Slope of AB =

Slope of BC =

Slope of CD =

Slope of AD =

Because the slopes of AB and CD are equal AND the slopes of

BC and AD are equal, opposite sides are parallel which makes

ABCD a parallelogram.
