  1. Weekly Sheet-Tuesday DO NOW If you know that 1 hour is equal to 60 minutes, how would you figure out how many hours 72 minutes is? Learning Goal/Objective -Convert between metric units -Apply metric units to distance problems Homework Complete practice problems (started today) Finish Halloween conversion problems from Monday

  2. Key Terms Unit of Measurement Conversion A specific measure of amount (in, ft, mi, cm, mm, L, gal, hr, min…) To change the same quantity from one unit to another

  3. Key Terms Metric units Imperial Units or United States Customary Units System of measurement based on units of a meter (meter, gram, liter, etc…) Non metric units derived from local units over Centuries (inches, feet, pounds, ounces, etc…)

  4. Conversion=Proportion Conversion factor! What are you trying to find? Set up a proportion-keeping units aligned! Cross multiply and divide to find x! Ex) 10 mm = 1 cm How many millimeters are in 5.2 centimeters? 10 mm = x mm 1 cm 5.2 cm 10 ( 5.2) = 1 x

  5. Metric-Let’s convert! • If there are 10 millimeters in a centimeter, how many millimeters make up 12 centimeters? • If there are 100 centimeters in a meter, how many centimeters are in 2.5 meters? • If there are 1000 meters in a kilometer, how many kilometers equals 3500 meters?

  6. Practice • If 1 cm on a map of Chicago = 1 km in real distance, how many meters would be represented by 5 cm on my map? • If 10 mm on a map of Harlan = 100 m in real distance, what would the distance be in cm of 60 mm on the map? 3) 4.2 cm = dm 4) mm = 100 m 5) 72 cm = m 6) ¾ km = m • cm = 10.5 mm • 10 hm = dc

  7. Practice 1) 4.2 cm = dm 2) mm = 100 m 3) 72 cm = m 4) ¾ km = m 5) cm = 10.5 mm 6) 10 hm = dc

  8. Exit Ticket-Sticky Note How many decimeters are in 4.5 kilometers?

  9. Weekly Sheet-Wednesday DO NOW Can you picture 7 billion of one thing? How much space do you think 7 billion of something would take up? Learning Goal/Objective SWBAT: -Describe of the world’s current population -Convert between non-metric units Homework Non-metric unit conversion problems

  10. 7,000,000,000! • If you counted out 7,000,000,000 grains of rice, you would need over 900,000 1 cup measuring cups full of rice • In 7,000,000,000 human steps you could walk the entire world 133 times, and it would take you 152 years • If you were 22 years old, you would have to name 10 people’s names per second for every second you have been alive to say the names of the 7,000,000,000 people

  11. HW and Exit Ticket HW • If 1 ft = 12 inches, how many feet are in 42 inches? • If 5280 feet make up a mile, how many feet are in 100 miles? • If there are 3 feet in a yard, how many inches make up 20 yards? EXIT TICKET-on sticky note What do you need to set up to convert from one unit to another?

  12. Weekly Sheet-Thursday DO NOW • If there are 2.54 cm in 1 inch, how many cm make up 10 inches? • If 5280 feet are in a mile, how many inches are in a mile? Learning Goal/Objective SWBAT: -Combine like terms -Simplify expressions Homework Study for test next week Gather HW from this week to turn in tomorrow

  13. Combining Like Terms Like Terms Unlike Terms 8 and 10 x and 2x 3y and -4y 2x² and 5x² 1 and x -5y and 7x 9 and 10x a and a³

  14. Combining Like Terms 7 apples and 3 apples 12x + 11x 9x + -8x 7 + 3 = 10 10 apples 12 + 11 = 23 23x + -  - 9x – 8x 1x

  15. Combine the like terms • 7 + 15x – 6x +1 • -12x + 4 – 11 + 2x 3) 20 – (-16x) + 5x

  16. Distributive Property Distribute Multiplication Apply to all and bring down sign Apply operation to all terms 5(3x + 2) 5(3x) + 5(2) 15x + 10

  17. PEMDAS and Combining Terms 4(3x+2) – 6x – 5(4) Distribute Simplify Combine LIKE terms 4(3x) + 4(2) – 6x – 5(4) 12x + 8 – 6x – 20 12x – 6x + 8 – 20 6x – 12

  18. Practice Simplify • – n – 11n • 5a + (8 + 16a) • (11c – 4) + (24c – 10) • 5(w + 5) + 7(2w + 1) • 2x² - 4(3x -2) + 6x

  19. Weekly Sheet-Friday DO NOW • Answer: What topic do you feel most comfortable with for the test? • Get out all HW from week to turn in! Learning Goal/Objective SWBAT: Review and summarize topics from weeks 6-10 Homework Study for TEST!!

  20. COMPETITION! At each station… • Complete one sheet for group: Each member does one problem on sheet-PUT NAME BY PROBLEM • Individually work on other problems from poster in your own notebook • Points awarded for showing work, correct answer, and being on task! • 10 minutes per station!!!
