Slide 1:Greater Gresham Area Prevention Partnership

Engaging faith communities in a drug free future for East County.

Slide 2:It’s about Values not Religion

We value families. We hold the body sacred. We share respect for the law. We acknowledge respect for self and others. We value community. We value education. We want safety and peace in our world.

    Slide 3:Christian Communities

Share the Bible. Trust the word written there. Acknowledge and respect the differences in religious doctrines. Continue to study and learn from scripture. Want to live a life of Christian values. Seek to exemplify those values through actions.

    Slide 4:Every Community Suffers

Pastors, Priests – all Christian leaders deal with drug and alcohol issues in their communities. How has this community suffered? How have people in this community responded? What are the concerns of this community about drug and alcohol use?

A BIG Issue It starts with the family; divorce, addiction, abuse, failure at school. It effects the community; child welfare issues, local crime, vandalism and neighborhood decay. Nationally; it is in marketing, advertising and culture.

    Slide 6:Where do we start?

In our faith communities we know,.. Families who are provided information on drugs and alcohol change the way they raise their children. Teens listen to other teens who tell them not to do drugs or drink. Activities for families that are drug and alcohol free and are filled with faith, work.

    Slide 7:How does this work?

The prevention coalition seeks to reduce teen drug and alcohol use. We are building teams of business, faith, social service agencies, parents and schools. We are educating. We are undertaking community projects. We will change policies. We will ask our community to change it’s environment.

    Slide 8:Then what?

We build a constituency of faith. That will work with the GGAPP coalition. That is viewed as the most important part of the solution to drugs and alcohol; Living our values for strong healthy families and communities. That exemplifies these values through action.

    Slide 9:The First Step

Make this effort a part of your prayers.

    Slide 10:The Second Step

Share a representative from your community with the coalition. They will become your link to change. They can share information. They can bring new educational opportunities. They can connect to community efforts. They will help your faith community be the answer.

    Slide 11:It’s for Our Future
