  2. PFS Overview • Fixed format, single object, cross-dispersed optical echelle • 390<l<660 nm complete coverage • across 64 orders • R = 38,000 / arcsec • Available slits • - 3.7” long, 0.2-3.0” wide • - 2.5” long, 0.3-0.7” wide • Iodine cell, QTH & ThAr calibration • Mounts at Clay Nasmyth East Magellan SAC

  3. Shipping & reassembly • Arrival at LCO 27 September 2010 Reassembled in auxiliary building 7-16 October Magellan SAC

  4. Installation • Installed on nasmyth platform 17 October. Magellan SAC

  11. Time Delayed Integration • TDI is implemented and working. Charge shift and opposing CCD shifts can be timed or slaved to exposure level. Magellan SAC

  12. No • TDI Magellan SAC

  13. With • TDI Magellan SAC

  14. Thermal control during construction • Instrument sees a 25C isothermal box around it. • Metal plates embedded in foam enclosure • Closed-loop, re-circulating water/glycol Magellan SAC

  15. ThermalControl Magellan SAC

  16. Velocity precision • Data reduction package is still evolving and improving. • Early results look promising. • Stable star from first science run 1-5 January 2010. • Additional data from 25 Feb-4 Mar run to be added. Magellan SAC
