FANBOYS • For (reason) I went to bed early, for I was tired • And (addition) My sister and I went shopping last Saturday • Nor/not(negative choice) I will neither drink nor dance • But (contrast) this room is old, but it is very comfortable • Or (options) do you want to play piano or play violin? • Yet (contrast/outcome) he likes to play tennis, yet his favourite sport is football • So (result) I was very tired, so I went to bed early

  3. EXAMPLES 1. The bowl of squid eyeball stew is hot anddelicious. 2. The squid eyeball stew is so thick that you can eat it with a fork orspoon. 3. Rocky, my orange tomcat, loves having his head scratched buthates getting his claws trimmed. 4. Rocky terrorizes the poodles next door yetadores the German shepherd across the street. 5. Rocky refuses to eat dry cat food, norwill he touch a saucer of squid eyeball stew. 6. I hate to waste a single drop of squid eyeball stew, forit is expensive and time-consuming to make. 7.   6. COMPLEX SENTENCE • Complex sentence is a sentence contains one independent clause/ main clause and at least one dependent clause. • Example: The dinner was burned because she had forgotten it. Independent c: The dinner was burned Dependent c: (because) she had forgotten it

  7. Dependent clause has some functions: • Adjective clause modifies noun/ pronoun • Adverb Clause modifies V,ADV,ADJ in the main clause • Noun Clause subtitutes a noun in the main clause functioning as S, Object of preposition or appositive

Dependent clauseusually begins by: • subordinate conjunction (contoh: after, since, when, although, because) ketika digunakan pada adverbial clause • relative pronoun (contoh: who, which, whose, whom, that) ketika digunakan pada Adjective clause • question word, if/weather, atau that ketika digunakan pada noun clause

  9. Adjective Clause Relative pronoun and relative adverb are used in connecting dependent clause to the main clause. Relative pronoun: who, whom, which,whose,that Relative adverb: where,when,why

  10. Who: to modify a person as a subject • Whom: to modify a person as an object • Which: to modify subject/object thing • Whose:  is for possession • Where: to relate a place • When: to a time expression • Why : to reason

  11. examples • The person who phoned me last night is my teacher • The woman, who is very beautiful, is my sister • The manager, whocomes on time, has worked for almost 10 years • Mr. Abraham, whom I admire so much, was my headmaster. • The person whom I phoned last night is my teacher

The car which hit me was yellow • The car which I drive is old. • Mueeza is a cat which is very faithful. • The mansion, whose owner is going on holiday, has burned down. •  My brother, whose phone you just heard, is a doctor. • The car, whose driver jumped out just before the accident, was completely destroyed.
