  3. Reaching Out Together • Assessing the need • Taking inventory of your gifts and resources • Getting organized

  4. Reaching Out Together • Measuring your need and capacity to give • Preparing your heart • Being available

  5. “Brothers and sisters, join in imitating me, and observe those who live according to the example you have in us. For many live as enemies of the cross of Christ; I have often told you of them, and now I tell you even with tears. Their end is destruction; their god is the belly; and their glory is in their shame; their minds are set on earthly things.”

  6. God’s grace and salvation comes through faith alone. Not on what one says, knows, believes, nor gives, and not even on what one accomplishes! (1 Corinthians 13)

  7. Not that I have already obtained this or have already reached the goal; but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own. Beloved, I do not consider that I have made it my own; but this one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on towards the goal for the prize of the heavenly call of God in Christ Jesus.

  8. “Let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us.” ~Hebrews 12:1 “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith..” ~ 2 Timothy 4:7 “Do you not know that in a race the runners all compete, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may win it. ” ~ 1 Corinthians 9:24

  10. Each of you must give as you have made up your mind, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.~ 2 Corinthians 9:7

By reaching out to others in need in community, > They begin to understand like never before who they are and what they really are capable of doing. > Their hearts are opened like never before to their own emotions and truths and the possibilities of a world rich with beauty and wisdom. >And they become available, perhaps for the first time, to themselves, to their neighbors, and to the greater good.

  13. Examples OfPeople Who Reach Out • Civil Servants • Political Representatives • Non-Profit Organizations • Helping Professionals (Nurses, Teachers, Librarians, etc.) • Safety Personnel (Police, Fire, EMS, etc.)

  14. Examples OfPeople Who Reach Out • Religious Leaders (clergy and lay leaders) • Community organizers • Students doing community service • And many, many individuals who reach out into the community simply because they care!

  15. Name Some Examples OfPeople Who Reach Out • Who are examples to you of people who reach out, not because of obligation, but because they feel called to give of themselves in community?
