  2. Question 1 • “There were pills and medicine all over the place, everything smelled like Vicks Nose Drops.”It is very depressing being at Mr. Spencer's house.

  3. Question 2 • Mr. Spencer gives Holden a big lecture. • Mr. Spencer shows Holden his past test and how he had to flunk him. • Mr. Spencer tells Holden life is a game.

  4. Question 3 • Holden focuses on Mr. Spencer's bad points. • Holden talks about Mr. Spencer's bed, “His bed was like a rock”. • This shows the lack of interest has when Mr. Spencer is giving him a lecture as his mind begins to wonder and think of other things.

Question 4 • A theme that’s is explored is disillusionment. • Holden gets disillusioned and starts to think about Mr. Spencer’s bad points rather than his original ideas of Mr. Spencer, like when he said he was interested in his lectures. • “Dear Mr. Spencer. That is all I know about the Egyptians. I can’t seem to get very interested in them although your lectures are very interesting”.
