  1. What are other types of energy?

  2. What is ENERGY? • Energy is the ability to do work. • Everything that happens in the world uses energy! • Most of the time we can’t see energy, but it is everywhere around us!

  3. Energy… • is NEVER created or destroyed! • can only be STORED or TRANFERRED. • Potential energy is the energy that is stored to so that it has the ability to do something useful later on. • Kinetic energy is the energy of motion.

  4. How is all energy divided? All Energy Kinetic Energy Potential Energy Light Electrical Nuclear Chemical Heat Sound

  5. Light energy travels in waves (electromagnetic waves). The Sun is the source of most light. However, light energy can come from anything that puts off light. What is Light Energy?

  6. All objects have heat energy. This heat energy increases as the temperature of the object increase. All objects are made up of a cluster of atoms called molecules. What is Heat Energy? Molecules Make ATOMS

  7. What is Heat Energy? • When energy is added to objects the molecules move faster. • High temperatures mean the molecules are moving faster and have more heat energy. • Low temperatures mean the molecules are moving slower and have less heat energy.

  9. Which object has more heat energy? The hot chocolate has more heat energy because the molecules are moving much faster than the molecules in the ice water.

  10. What is Chemical Energy? • Chemical energy is the energy stored in bonds between atoms. Atom Atom Bond between atoms where chemical energy is stored.

  11. What is Chemical Energy? • Everything is made of atoms. • In order to get the chemical energy stored between the atoms the bonds have to be broken.

  12. How do you break the bonds between the atoms? • Your body breaks the bonds of this burger to get chemical energy. • Fire can break the bonds between atoms in this tree to release chemical energy. • A chemical reaction with the battery acid happens to break the bonds and release chemical energy.

  13. How is this an example of Chemical Energy? • Gasoline • How could you get the chemical energy out of the gasoline? • Our cars burn the gasoline. Which breaks the bonds between the atoms. This releases the chemical energy stored in these bond for the car to use.

  14. What is Electrical Energy? • Electrical Energy is caused by the movement of electrons. • Either in a wire or • In the form of lightning • It is easily transported through power lines and converted into other forms of energy

  15. Where is the Electrical Energy? The electrical energy is were the electrons are moving through the wires.

  16. What is Sound Energy? • Sound energy is vibrations that move through matter to our ears as sound waves • How fast or slow the waves move = different frequency

  17. Name That Energy Chemical Energy. Because it is made of atoms. Our body breaks down the bonds between these atoms to get the chemical energy

  18. Name that Energy Heat Energy. Because the molecules are moving very quickly.
