We, the public policy analysts from Wade CJHS 117, present our findings on the urgent issue of children being killed and involved in gun violence. Our analysis identifies key causes such as unrestricted access to guns, lack of responsible storage, and inadequate licensing. We propose robust solutions including mandatory registration for handguns, thorough background checks for buyers, and the promotion of a non-violent culture through media and community programs. By addressing these issues collectively, we strive for a safer environment for children.

  8. Prohibited purchasers can still get guns legally Buyers can get unlimited amounts of guns and ammunition Gun owners are not required to store guns responsibly Too many people have access to too many guns

  11. Registration of handguns Strict licensing of gun owners Required background checks at gun shows and before other private sales Adoption and enforcement of strong Child Access Prevention (CAP) laws

Children need a culture that is non violent TV programs should reflect a culture that is non violent Children from violent homes need guidance both in school and community Invest in non violent, public TV programming Invest in non violent fun video games Invest in a variety of healthy after school programs Solutions for Kids

Licensing of Gun Owners or Buyers Demonstrate a basic understanding of how guns work, including the use and limitations of safety devices Provide fingerprints and a photograph Pass a thorough background check, including a check for misdemeanor convictions Demonstrate minimal competence in handling and shooting a gun Demonstrate detailed knowledge of the laws governing the use, possession, storage, and transfer of guns Maintain current registration on all handguns owned
