  1. History Of Computers By: Amena Begum Mr. Ochs – pd. 8/9 Human Ingenuity

  2. Timeline of computers • In 1937 Alan Turing's Turing machine made the idea of machines that could complete tasks by having programs. • In 1938, KonradZuse built the first binary digital relay computer. In 1943 saw the first general-purpose digital computer, ENIAC. • In 1948 the Manchester Baby became the first stored program computer. • In 1955 MIT built the first real-time processing machine. • In 1956, IBM created the disk memory system. Then the integrated circuit chip. • In 1959 IBM introduced the first desktop machines. Then in 1965 Digital Equipment Corporation's had the first microcomputer.

  3. First to come up with idea of computers • In the year 1837, Charles Babbage was the first to think about something that would function like a computer and ended up designing a programmable mechanical computer that he called "The Analytical Engine"

  4. Why have computers been invented? • Computers have been invented to make life easier • Find information that we don’t know about and not have the information eradicated from their minds. • Get faster results • Part of technology that helps us with most of the things in our life

  5. First company to have computers • 1949, The first computer company, Electronic Controls Company is founded by J. Presper Eckert and John Mauchly

  6. How big were the first computers • They were as big as houses or bigger. • Had many parts • Were put in factories or larger buildings to be able to fit it somewhere • Very hard to use

  7. How fast were the processors • The processors were very slow • People thought of new inventions • Tried to make processing faster which is how modern computers process faster

  8. Comparison of old computers and modern computers. • Modern computers are portable, not big, process faster, has more apps, easier to use • Old computers were just the opposite of modern computers

  9. When were the computers released to the public • The first public computer was released in August 12, 1981.

  10. First computer made • The Analytical Engine - but this didn’t work Z machines - but this wasn’t an actual computer Electronic Numerical Integrator and Computer - this was considered the first computer

  11. Pictures of computers through various times
